Reflecting
back to the conference, I was much impressed by the presentation of Dr. Lee
about Teachers and Teacher Education and especially the topic Teachers of
minorities as Agents of change: I think the topic concerns us a lot as future
leaders and the presenter focus on the role a teacher does to make change. She
said a teacher can contribute a lot in peace building and especially women
teachers can lead or teach well, she added that a qualify teacher can act as agent
of change firstly by making the change in him/herself and become an advocacy,
secondly he can make change on students academic success and in educational
system whereby he can make the school as a place of transformation and make
appropriate changes in the curriculum that fits the school. So I feel like the
presentation was done for the 14 of us to be the agents of change in south
Sudan after completing our Masters program and take the knowledge and skills we
are going to obtain. So ladies don’t you think we can be the change makers of
South Sudan beside all the challenges we will face?

How to develop South Sudan history curriculum.
History is what makes us understand about people and open
our minds to different possibility. According to my suggestion I think we
should use the balance approach of which we don’t teach everything, the
students will get some of the information from their community perspectives while
the role of school is to plant in their minds the heart of togetherness {we are
the same} by focusing on the political development and welfare of the country and
excluding the parts of war {conflicts} and the things that focus most on
division which may again cause tribal prejudice then we teach them the effects
of violence.
We can use examples from other countries to show
them how to live so as to develop their national identity also. Finally we
should teach history for a common good and encourage our students to visit
places like the museums and historical
sites to learn more about the country. I don’t know how the idea of museum and
historical sites will help in the development of South Sudan history curriculum.
